Inside San Diego

If you're coming to San Diego, you may be wondering what to do. As a San Diego native, I thought I would help you out and give you a list of things that I think are the "must sees".

- Downtown Gaslamp District... lots of restaraunts, night life, and a fun mall.

- Mt Soledad... beautiful 360* views of the city, especially nice at night. Print out a map so you don't get lost on the way up!

- La Jolla... check out the coves, sea lions, kayak, upscale shopping and restaurants, hike at Torrey Pines, Birch Aquarium, and art museum.

- Sea World... of course.

- World famous zoo... take the bus tour, then walk the rest.

- Mission Bay... roller coaster and other rides on the boardwalk, surf at the Wavehouse, or just have a picnic at the park.

- Balboa Park... a lot of museums, a dog park, theater, the zoo, international houses, and botanical garden. Some museums are free on Tuesdays.

- Old Town trolley tour... I've done this twice and I think it is a great way to see a lot of city highlights, get some history, and not have to fight traffic. Start early as you can get on and off and walk around all day.

- Coronado ferry... takes your from downtown to Coronado in about 15 minutes. Great for getting a nice view of the skyline. On Sundays they usually have a jazz band playing at the dock.

-Coronado... visit the famous Hotel Del, walk along the main drag and check out the restaraunts and shops. Great beaches, too.

- Del Mar fairgrounds... in summer check out the races, especially opening and closing day... they also have events going on all year.

- Fashion and Mission Valley malls for great shopping... Fashion Valley is getting pretty upscale now with Coach, Prada, Tiffany's, and many others moving in.

The cool thing about San Diego is that it is a lot of small towns all thrown together to make a big city. If you live in one area you don't even really have to venture to other areas because it will have almost everything you need. Here is a list of some of the highlights of the areas.

Ocean Beach- funky, hippy beach town. Thrift stores and other cheaper places to shop. Tried to ban Starbucks from opening there. Dog beach is located there.

Pacific Beach- great nightlife for the younger crowd. A lot of college kids hang out here.

Del Mar- adorable little shops downtown and a nice beach.

Hillcrest- very artsy, homosexual area. Great little boutiques and restaraunts.

North park/ Kensington- artsy areas of San Diego. Has an open house on the second Saturday of every month called Ray at/North Park Nights.

Little Italy- great place for Italian food including an Italian market. They also have an art event called Kettner Nights every few months on a Friday.
